Dr. Dre released his album “Compton” and news now out is it sold 295,000 equivalent-album units in the first week of release. Impressive but he was beaten to the Billboard number one spot by the country superstar, Luke Bryan who sold 345,000 units in the same period.
Maybe this is because Dr. Dre’s album is exclusively available on Apple Music and the iTunes store for the first two weeks of its release. This is bound to go up as the album is available on other platforms. The album has however gotten very positive reviews, including an 8.8 rating from Pitchfork. The film that the album is based on, “Straight Outta Compton” has also surpassed industry expectations and raked in more than $60 million.
For their 20th Anniversary, N.W.A re-released the album “Straight Outta Compton: 20th Anniversary Edition“. The original release was done in 1988 and was the first album to reach double platinum level without commercial support due to its explosive message. Its re-release has still attained much positive acclaim, 20 years later. Truly the work of Legends!
